# Wolverhampton Wanderers: Fans laud ‘Rolls Royce’ Fernando Gomez

**Plenty of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have lauded former player Fernando Gomez after the Midlands club posted a throwback goal of his on their official [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Wolves/status/1250739208865669120) page.**

The clip showed the ex-central midfield player score an outrageous strike from outside of the box against Stockport County at Molineux back on the 31st August 1998. After some good build-up play, the ball eventually fell to Gomez in the middle of the park, where he first controlled it on his chest before unleashing a venomous volley into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance of keeping it out.

Unfortunately, the Wanderers could not win the game as they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. It was the man from Valencia’s only season in England, and WWFC have challenged supporters to name the team he was part of, which can be accessed on their official [website](https://www.wolves.co.uk/news/features/20200416-goal-of-the-day-gomez-vs-stockport/).

These fans lauded their former ace, with one describing him as a ‘Rolls Royce’:

> Would fit into today’s squad he was that good. Vision and execution of pass were top class

> Great player. Also looked just like the guy who used to clean the windows round Tettenhall way.

> Christ he would have fit into this side perfectly. I always edited the database of CM3 to make him 21 and built my side around him and Keane. Wonderful player.
