# Wolves: AC Milan could provide competition for Renato Sanches

**Wolves could reportedly face competition from Serie A giants AC Milan for the signing of Lille and Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches.**

### The Lowdown: Wolves linked with Sanches move

The Portugal international was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-transfer-rumours/renato-sanches-premier-league/) with a move to Elland Road earlier in the year but a transfer failed to come to fruition.

Instead, Sanches stayed put at reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille, where he has made [five Ligue 1 appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/Show/Renato-Sanches) so far this season, starting three times.

The [£27million-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/profil/spieler/258027) midfielder’s current deal [expires](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/profil/spieler/258027) in 2023 and it could be that Lille look to receive a fee for him before he can leave for free.

### The Latest: New rumour emerges

A fresh update has now emerged regarding Sanches’ future, with [*Calciomercato*](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/wolverhampton-pensa-a-un-ex-obiettivo-del-milan-54985) confirming Wolves’ interest but also mentioning Milan as potential suitors.

He has been [compared (Bundesliga – official)](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/renato-sanches-bayern-munich-second-chance-wonderkid-510042.jsp) to Netherlands legend Clarence Seedorf in the past, which highlights his potential as an all-action midfield general.

### The Verdict: A risk worth taking?

Sanches’ talent is undeniable – he was superb at Euro 2020 for Portugal, for example, [completing 91.6%](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/Show/Renato-Sanches) of his passes – but the one main question mark against him is injuries.

The Portuguese has been plagued by [fitness issues](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/renato-sanches/verletzungen/spieler/258027) throughout his career and he was limited to [just 14 league starts](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/299450/History/Renato-Sanches) for Lille in their title-winning season.

Wolves could be wise to take a punt on Sanches, given his ability, but they would do it knowing that there is a risk element behind it.
