# Wolves: Wanderers set sights on Maximo Perrone

**[Wolves](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) have reportedly set their sights on Velez Sarsfield midfielder Maximo Perrone, with an approach already made.**

[Sports Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-wolves-already-approached-club-player-sights-potential-star/) relayed a recent update from [Record](https://www.record.pt/) regarding Wolves and Perrone. They claimed that Wanderers and [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) rivals Newcastle United have set their sights on the left-footed midfielder and have made an approach about a move.

However, a further update from [Fabrizio Romano](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1608580594711298049?s=46&t=MpAOJJximLbMBSAf3MscWg) has suggested that Manchester City are set to trigger Perrone’s $8m release clause.

### The Verdict: Future star?

[Matheus Cunha](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/dec/25/wolves-confirm-matheus-cunha-signing-from-atletico-madrid-in-44m-deal) recently became the first signing of the [Julen Lopetegui](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/julen-lopetegui/) era, and it doesn’t look as if the Brazilian will be the only January arrival.
