# Wolves: Wanderers in advanced talks to sign Craig Dawson

**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign West Ham United defender Craig Dawson, according to Sky Sports reporter [Dharmesh Sheth](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth).**

### The Lowdown: Dawson set for West Ham exit

The 32-year-old has now entered the [final year](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-ham-united/vertragsende/verein/379) of his deal at the London Stadium, and the Irons are reluctantly [open](https://twitter.com/alex_crook/status/1565080513634869250?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1565080513634869250%7Ctwgr%5Ef2abddb217a419ea35703cd8ad035593ce383bba%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fd-2009137112848320132.ampproject.net%2F2208172101000%2Fframe.html) to sanctioning an exit due to him [wanting to move](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1564952990305423361) closer to the Midlands for family reasons.

Alongside Bruno Lage’s outfit, [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) side Aston Villa have been credited with an [interest](https://www.90min.com/posts/wolves-aston-villa-competing-craig-dawson-west-ham) in the centre-back, and despite both clubs tabling an [offer](https://twitter.com/TalkingWolves/status/1564610914954911756), it now looks like he could be on his way to Molineux after a fresh update.

### The Latest: Wolves in Dawson talks

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/skysports_sheth/status/1565101014319079425?s=21&t=PiLsBCPCDM8yJpF8vTPB-g) late on Wednesday night, Sheth confirmed that Wolves are in late negotiations to secure a deal for Dawson.

He wrote: “Wolves in advanced talks to sign West Ham United defender Craig Dawson. West Ham close to agreeing a loan deal for Southampton defender Jan Bednarek.”

### The Verdict: Boly replacement

Willy Boly looks like he is [set to join](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11161669/Nottingham-Forest-set-confirm-NINETEENTH-summer-signing-Wolves-defender-Willy-Boly.html) Nottingham Forest, and so Dawson would be a welcome experienced addition at the heart of the Wolves backline.

The 6 foot 1 colossus, who was [dubbed](https://twitter.com/buntingfootball/status/1514765225320452099?s=21&t=HprzLEXE_kzFFQWD96tmYQ) ‘outstanding’ by sports journalist [Josh Bunting](https://twitter.com/Buntingfootball), averaged 4.1 clearances and won 2.8 of his aerial duels per game for the Hammers in the top flight last season ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/73063/History/Craig-Dawson)), and has the [versatility](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/craig-dawson/leistungsdaten/spieler/121477) to operate at right-back as well as centrally.

Lage is also believed to be [targeting](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/wolves-premier-league-jason-denayer-transfer-news-updates/) a move for free agent Jason Denayer, but with [238](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/craig-dawson/leistungsdaten/spieler/121477) Premier League appearances under his belt, Dawson would no doubt be the more sensible option.
