**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) have reportedly ‘made progress’ in pursuit of AS Roma striker Eldor Shomurodov, according to [La Repubblica](https://www.repubblica.it/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-made-progress-sign-attacker-club-want-players-permanent-exit/)).**

### The lowdown: Career so far

[Signed](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/transfers/spieler/358166) for £16.2million from fellow Serie A outfit Genoa, Shomurodov has directly contributed to [11 goals in 40 outings](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/358166) for Roma since arriving in the Italian capital.

The 27-year-old Uzbekistan frontman was part of Jose Mourinho’s side that [lifted](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/erfolge/spieler/358166) the inaugural UEFA Conference League last term, appearing as a [substitute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/358166/saison/2021/wettbewerb/UCOL/verein/12) in the final victory over Feyenoord.

Despite remaining part of the plans in Rome in 2021/22, Shomurodov is seemingly up for grabs this summer and Wolves could be set to benefit from the availability…

### The latest: ‘Made progress’

As per [La Repubblica](https://www.repubblica.it/) (via [Pagine Romaniste](https://www.pagineromaniste.com/mercato-shomurodov-piace-anche-in-inghilterra-il-wolverhampton-si-informa/), translated by [SW](https://sportwitness.co.uk/wolves-made-progress-sign-attacker-club-want-players-permanent-exit/)), Wolves have ‘made progress’ in signing the [56-cap, 30-goal international](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/nationalmannschaft/spieler/358166/verein_id/3563) star.

It’s claimed that Bologna are also keen on Shomurodov, whilst there is also a ‘call from abroad’ with the Old Gold understood to have enquired about the Uzbek hitman.

The report also states that Roma are open to ‘either’ a loan exit with an option to buy or an immediate permanent sale of the man hailed for his [‘superb’](https://twitter.com/buntingfootball/status/1332015313345540097?s=21&t=-GF4o9qOP_hCs_dDLp7yJg) dribbling and assist for a Gianluca Scamacca strike back in November 2020.

### The lowdown: Striker essential

Having allowed Fabio Silva to [join](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/wolves-anderlecht-premier-league-portugal-porto-b2126410.html) Anderlecht on loan this summer and following the [injury](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/wolves-injury-news-raul-jimenez-24605913) suffered to Raul Jimenez, adding firepower to Bruno Lage’s squad is imperative.

[Capable](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/leistungsdaten/spieler/358166/plus/0?saison=ges) of playing across the frontline and in deeper roles, Mourinho predominantly utilised Shomurodov as an out-and-out centre-forward last season, yielding[five goals and six assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/leistungsdaten/spieler/358166/plus/0?saison=2021) in 40 appearances across all competitions from his [6 foot 3](https://www.asroma.com/en/player-profile-bios/eldor-shomurodov-profile) hitman.

Sharing a close stylistic likeness to such renowned attackers as Luis Muriel, Edin Dzeko and ex-Wanderers favourite turned [Liverpool sensation](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12664130/diogo-jota-liverpool-forward-signs-long-term-contract-extension) Diogo Jota ([Fbref](https://fbref.com/en/players/57469b2d/Eldor-Shomurodov)), Shomurodov would appear to be a smart choice for Lage in order to add much-needed strength to the forward options.

Valued at £7.2million and under contract until 2026 ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eldor-shomurodov/marktwertverlauf/spieler/358166)), this would be a wholly affordable venture of the Molineux hierarchy and as such, one Jeff Shi should be pushing to make happen as soon as possible.
