The fixture will take place in the [week commencing Monday September 23rd](https://twitter.com/Wolves/status/1166819515608502273), which [falls in between two Europa League group stage matchweeks](https://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=2589463.html) if Wolves make it to that stage of the continental competition.

Wolves have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the third round stage in [three of the last four seasons](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/pokalhistorie/verein/543), two of which were against Championship opposition ([Newcastle in 2016/17](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/37346000), [Middlesbrough in 2015/16](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/34253543)).

Last season they eliminated a Championship side in the second round, [beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-0](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/45254598), before [losing on penalties to fellow Premier League club Leicester](https://www.skysports.com/football/wolves-vs-leicester/401823) in round three.

Wolves won both of their matches against Reading in the Championship in 2017/18, 3-0 at Molineux and 2-0 at the Madejski Stadium. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/bilanzdetail/verein/543/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/1032/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0)\]

Wolves have triumphed in the last three Molineux meetings between the teams, with Reading last tasting victory at the venue in the 2014/15 season. \[[via TransferMarkt.co.uk](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/bilanzdetail/verein/543/wettbewerb_id//gegner_id/1032/saison_id//heim_gast//datum_von/-/datum_bis/-/day/0/land_id/0)\]
