# Wolves: Fans think back on the club’s progress after Europa League win in Italy

**Wolves are on the brink of qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League after last night’s [3-2 win away to Torino](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2019/08/22/torino-2-wolves-3-europa-league-report/) in the first leg of the play-off round.**

If Nuno Espirito Santo’s team avoid defeat to the Serie A side at Molineux next week, they will enter the group stage of the competition just six seasons after playing in the third tier of English football.

Tim Spiers ([@tim\_spiers\_Star](https://twitter.com/tim_spiers_Star)), who [covers the club for the Express & Star](https://twitter.com/tim_spiers_Star), took to Twitter last night to express his astonishment at the progression Wolves have made in recent years.

> Am I the only one who still pinches themselves that Wolves are this good?

In 2013, Wolves were [relegated to League One under the watch of Dean Saunders](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22432597) and their [second successive demotion](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/22415309) prompted then-owner Steve Morgan to say that the club had “[failed our supporters and the city](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/22415309)“.

The [takeover by the club by Fosun International](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36852323) three years ago brought about [significant investment](https://www.reuters.com/article/us-soccer-files-fosun-special-report/special-report-how-a-soccer-agent-and-chinese-tycoon-planned-to-trade-in-players-idUSKCN1OX0Q4) that led to [Nuno coming in as manager in 2017](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/40105588) and Wolves being [promoted as emphatic winners of the Championship](https://www.premierleague.com/news/664691) a year later.

In their first campaign back in the Premier League, they [finished seventh](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1), a position that was ultimately [good enough to secure European football](https://soccer.nbcsports.com/2019/05/18/wolves-qualify-for-europa-league/) after champions Manchester City [won both domestic cups](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/48321358).

These Wolves fans on Twitter gleefully compared where the club are now compared to darker days in the past:

> No… having seen us get battered by the likes of Crewe, I’ll never take this kind of result for granted!
