# Wolves: Old Gold named in fresh Goncalo Ramos report

**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) have once again been name-checked among the suitors for Benfica frontman Goncalo Ramos in a report from Portuguese newspaper [Jornal de Notícias](https://jn.pt/) (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-will-present-big-offer-striker-magpies-trying-anticipate-competition/)).**

### The lowdown: Striker needed

Having allowed Fabio Silva to join Anderlecht, Wolves lost Raul Jimenez to injury and subsequently were left with Hwang Hee-chan as the last remaining recognised striker option.

The Wanderers have since added Goncalo Guedes to Bruno Lage’s ranks, although there are [reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/wolves-wanderers-pedro-neto-goncalo-ramos-transfer-gossip-news-updates/) that another striker option could well be heading through the door at Molineux over the coming days along with [Matheus Nunes](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12674220/matheus-nunes-wolves-agree-club-record-42-2m-deal-to-sign-sporting-lisbon-midfielder).

Now a fresh claim has emerged from Portugal suggesting that Wolves are still among those interested in signing Ramos before the September 1 deadline, although a Premier League rival is seemingly some way ahead in the pursuit…

### The latest: Old Gold named

As per [Jornal de Noticias](https://jn.pt/), translated by [SW](https://sportwitness.co.uk/newcastle-will-present-big-offer-striker-magpies-trying-anticipate-competition/), Wolves, Everton, Leeds United and Southampton are all keen on the 21-year-old Portugal youth international.

However, it’s claimed that [mega-rich](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11678/12427983/newcastle-takeover-completed-saudi-led-consortium-end-mike-ashleys-14-year-ownership) Newcastle United ‘will present’ an offer worth in excess of €40million (£33.6million) for Ramos.

The report states that the North East outfit ‘anticipate the competition’ from their domestic rivals and are therefore attempting to land the man described as a [‘super talent’](https://twitter.com/AntonioMango4/status/1554562803108806666) by European football expert Antonio Mango.

### The verdict: Make it happen

Adding a genuine centre-forward option to Lage’s ranks is imperative if Wolves are going to be competitive this season and as such players like [Moussa Dembele](https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/moussa-dembele-wolves-transfer-striker-24765450) have been linked to the Midlands outfit in recent days.

Last term, Ramos [scored eight times and provided four assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/goncalo-ramos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/550550/plus/0?saison=2021&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in 46 outings across all competitions whilst playing second fiddle to now Liverpool hitman Darwin Nunez.

This season as the main man, the Portuguese ace – who scored [24 times in 46 displays](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/goncalo-ramos/nationalmannschaft/spieler/550550/verein_id/16374) across all youth international levels – has already [netted four times and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/goncalo-ramos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/550550/plus/0?saison=2022&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) in just four appearances, a testament to what he is capable of as a primary number nine.

Another added point of interest for Lage is likely to be the player’s – he’s missed just [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/goncalo-ramos/verletzungen/spieler/550550) games due to injury in his entire career to date.
