# Wolves: Julen Lopetegui could reunite with Isco in transfer swoop

**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) manager Julen Lopetegui could make a shock move to sign former player Isco.**

### The Lowdown: Lopetegui targeting midfielder

Wolves have emerged as potential suitors for the midfielder as a result of Lopetegui’s previous history of working with him, [signing](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/sevilla-set-to-seal-isco-transfer-ex-real-madrid-star-agrees-deal/bltfec1150f12c99aa1) him for Sevilla back in the summer upon expiration of his Real Madrid contract.

What is clear is that the Spaniard needs some reinforcements to start providing more service for the likes of Diego Costa and Hee-Chan Hwang, with the Wanderers creating the [second least chances](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/9075/Stages/20934/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2022-2023) of any side in the league, above only Nottingham Forest.

Isco could fit the bill, given his distinguished career at the very top level, winning the Champions League [five](https://www.transfermarkt.com/isco/erfolge/spieler/85288) times and racking up an outrageous [19](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/erfolge/spieler/85288) senior trophies in total.

### The Latest: Isco in Lopetegui’s sights

As per [Marca](https://www.marca.com/futbol/sevilla/2022/12/12/6396fe84268e3ea9268b457f.html), Sevilla are trying to accelerate a sale for the 30-year-old in the January transfer window amid an issue relating to discipline, opening the door for a move to Molineux.

Despite wanting the [£29k](https://salarysport.com/football/player/isco/)-per-week earner out of the club, the La Liga side are still holding out for a transfer fee though, as he is currently contracted until [2024.](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/profil/spieler/85288)

Once holding a release clause of [£592m](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/benzema-release-clause-messi-ronaldo-24805835) while at Real Madrid, it is unclear how much Sevilla would require to part ways with the playmaker.

### The Verdict: Worth it?

Lopetegui clearly trusts the playmaker, if he is willing to once again bring him to a new club, and so hopefully he would be able to repay this faith by rediscovering some of his old form.

Andres Iniesta has previously described his compatriot as ‘[incredible](https://www.football-espana.net/2017/03/24/isco-is-incredible-iniesta)‘, but that was more than five years ago, and in truth, he has failed to live up to his potential after a fantastic 2016-17 season, in which he recorded [18](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/85288) goal contributions in 30 La Liga games for Madrid.

There is some cause for optimism, as the maestro has racked up [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/85288) goals and assists this term, more than he has managed in a single season since the 2018-19 campaign, but Sevilla would surely have to accept a much lower price than expected for this to be worth it.
