# Wolves: Julen Lopetegui already working on January transfer plans

**New [Wolves](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) manager Julen Lopetegui is already working on plans for the January transfer window, according to [John Percy](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/11/05/how-wolves-finally-ended-six-year-pursuit-julen-lopetegui/).**

### The Lowdown: Lopetegui appointed

Wolves [confirmed](https://twitter.com/Wolves/status/1588820917555175424) Lopetegui’s appointment on Saturday morning, with the Spaniard set to take over on November 14th. It was third time lucky for Molineux chiefs in their pursuit of the 56-year-old after making [two](https://twitter.com/MailSport/status/1586678072211869696) previous approaches.

Lopetegui is set to take over a Wolves side struggling in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/), with defeat to Brighton on Saturday leaving the club in [19th place](https://www.premierleague.com/tables).

### The Latest: Transfer admission

Percy shared a story for [The Telegraph](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2022/11/05/how-wolves-finally-ended-six-year-pursuit-julen-lopetegui/) following Lopetegui’s appointment on Saturday, looking at the inside story of how a move played out.

He said that the new head coach has ‘ratified’ the club’s plans for the international break, with Wolves set to head to Marbella for a training camp.

The reliable reporter also added that Lopetegui is already discussing targets with the board ahead of the January transfer window.

### The Verdict: Exciting

Additions to the squad in the New Year appear to be desperately needed for Lopetegui, with the final third a real area of concern.

Wolves are the only side in the top flight yet to hit double figures for goals scored, finding the back of the net on just [eight](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) occasions in [14](https://www.premierleague.com/tables) games.

Bringing in Diego Costa on a free transfer is yet to work, while summer signing Sasa Kalajdzic suffered an [ACL injury](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2022/09/04/wolves-blow-as-sasa-kalajdzic-suffers-acl-injury-on-debut/) on his debut back in September.

Therefore, you’d expect that a new forward could be high up on Lopetegui’s wishlist, and it is exciting to know that transfer plans are already being discussed ahead of 2023.
