# Wolves: Julen Lopetegui calls Felipe over possible move

**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) manager Julen Lopetegui has contacted Atletico Madrid defender Felipe over a possible move to Molineux.**

### The Lowdown: Felipe speculation

Wolves have already made [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/transfers/verein/543) signings this month, with Matheus Cunha, Mario Lemina and Pablo Sarabia joining from Atletico Madrid, OGC Nice and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Cunha was the first through the door at Molineux, with Felipe [linked](https://www.expressandstar.com/sport/football/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/2022/12/08/julen-lopetegui-wolves-are-interested-in-matheus-cunha-and-felipe/) with a move to the Midlands at the same time as the forward. The pair share the same [agency](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bertolucci-sports/beraterfirma/berater/724), and it looks as if Lopetegui is still keen on a move for the 33-year-old defender.

### The Latest: Lopetegui contact

According to Brazilian outlet [UOL Sport](https://www.uol.com.br/esporte/colunas/mercado-da-bola/2023/01/18/alvo-do-wolverhampton-zagueiro-felipe-entra-na-mira-do-inter-miami.htm), Felipe is expected to change clubs in 2023. He is out of [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/profil/spieler/156501) at the end of the season, with Wolves and Inter Miami named in the report.

### The Verdict: Needed?

Wolves have just [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/kader/verein/543/saison_id/2022/plus/1) centre-back options available to Lopetegui, with Max Kilman the oldest at the age of 25. Kilman and Nathan Collins have been [regulars](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/wolverhampton-wanderers/leistungsdaten/verein/543) so far this season, so you could say that the experience of someone like Felipe would be beneficial, with Wolves ([27](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)) conceding more Premier League goals than West Ham ([25](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)) and Everton ([26](https://www.premierleague.com/tables)), both of whom are in the relegation zone.

The Brazilian, who sports correspondent Simon Evans has lauded as ‘[superb](https://twitter.com/sgevans/status/1238087320777240578?s=20&t=YRZPIrcYl1BGoQjvmBHp4A)‘ as a result of his performances for Atletico, has made over [350](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) club appearances during his career, with over [250](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) of those coming for Atletico and FC Porto.

He has experience at the highest level in the [Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) but has been limited to just [three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/felipe/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/156501) La Liga appearances this season, so who knows, he could be convinced to join Lopetegui at Wolves following talks.
