Wolves forward Adama Traore has vowed to improve his game day after day, making his debut for Spain on Wednesday night.

Always wanting to get better

The 24-year-old speedster was the talk of the Premier League last season, mainly after his brace helped topple Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad, and has also put in several impressive performances for Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

The West Midlands outfit were open to selling him during the summer if a hefty fee came in - both champions Liverpool and the Citizens were interested in his services. Traore has scored seven goals and provided 15 assists in 95 appearances for Wolves, taking his career total at all levels to 24, as per TransferMarkt.

Traore has been praised by the likes of the former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who hailed him for rising to the challenge after being wasteful at times, via Football Insider. However, Traore has now played 11 Premier League games without scoring and appears to be slumping back to his old ways.

Speaking to the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Traore recognised the job he did at the Etihad as the benchmark and admitted he is always looking to develop as a player.

“Matches against great teams like City always attract attention,” he said.

“I had been working for a long time, and that is my mentality. Improve day by day. If I am the same as yesterday, it is a wasted day.”

Mentality monster

These are comments that every Wolves player will want to hear. Even though there has been some scrutiny about his performances in recent months, Traore knows where the boundary has been set and strives to not just meet it but smash through it every time.

Even though Traore is not in the best form at the minute, his Spain debut should inflict huge confidence into him after being hailed by Luis Enrique.

Having been retained at the Molineux for the 2020/21 campaign, it's clear that Nuno still has faith in the 24-year-old to perform on a weekly basis. With Diogo Jota leaving to join Liverpool, there is more chance of him proving this.

Time will tell whether it was the right decision to keep Traore when a huge sum could have been earned this summer. But if any moment is going to transform the trajectory of his personal campaign, making his debut for the 2010 World Cup winners surely has to have an impact.
