Wolves: Dean Jones says Wanderers could still sign Jason Denayer -Wolves News

Transfer insider Dean Jones has said that Wolves could still sign central defender Jason Denayer.

The Lowdown: Talks reach ‘impasse’

It has been reported that talks have reached an ‘impasse’ with regards to bringing Denayer to Molineux as a free agent.

They also want to bring in a new striker following new signing Sasa Kalajdzic’s ACL injury, with Andy Carroll and Diego Costa among a number of centre-forwards being linked with Bruno Lage’s side, and the latter expected to sign imminently.

The Latest: Denayer ‘still on the radar’

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has shared that Denayer is ‘still on the radar’ of the Wanderers, but admitted that the player himself ‘needs convincing’:

“He’s still on the radar. The player himself is weighing up that move and whether it will be right for him.

“I think he needs convincing of his first-team opportunities and how this team is actually shaping up.”

The Verdict: Get it done

To sign any player without a transfer fee always represents tidy business for any club, and WWFC would be getting an experienced centre-back in Denayer at a good age at 27.

Should Wolves sign Denayer?

He has actually experienced the Premier League before with Sunderland, while he has also amassed over 250 appearances at club level with some high-profile European sides including Lyon, Galatasaray and Celtic.

Having secured 35 caps for the Belgium national team as well, Denayer will no doubt be eager to impress ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in November, and having lost Conor Coady and Willy Boly to Everton and Nottingham Forest respectively, Wolves could so with some extra cover at centre-half.
