Transfer insider Dean Jones has shared that Liverpool will 'continue to retain an interest' in Matheus Nunes, despite him signing for Wolves.

The Lowdown: 2023 move?

It was reported last week that the Anfield outfit are considering a move in 2023 for Nunes after missing out on him in the summer transfer window.

They were showing interest in the Portugal international last month, but he ended up moving to Molineux from Sporting, leaving the Merseyside outfit scrambling for a last minute loan deal for Arthur Melo.

The Latest: Will retain interest

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones has shared that the Reds will 'continue to retain an interest' in Nunes, despite him only recently joining Bruno Lage's side:

“Liverpool were actually interested in him before he joined Wolves.

“So, they will continue to retain an interest there, but Wolves can’t think about it right now – all their focus is on how this current group of players can turn around the season.”

The Verdict: Worrying

It is certainly worrying to hear of Liverpool's continued interest in Nunes, especially so soon after he signed for the Wanderers.

The Portuguese maestro joined the Old Gold in a club-record deal, and so they will not want to lose him so suddenly, especially considering that he has been one of their best performers so far this season.

However, if the Reds came calling for his signature, it may be difficult for Nunes to turn down, considering the history of the club and the fact that they have been challenging for the Premier League and Champions League titles over the last few campaigns.

All that said, Nunes has a contract in the Midlands until 2027 so they are under no pressure to sell him straight away, with Fosun sure to bank a big profit if he does move on.
