Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the four clubs mentioned in the race to sign Sevilla and Argentina ace Marcos Acuna.

The Lowdown: Dwindling minutes

Under the management of Julen Lopetegui, the 31-year-old was a regular at Sevilla as a progressive left full-back and ranked as the Andalusian side’s most creative asset, having conjured up 43 chances, owing to his directness on the flank, and averaged 1.7 successful dribbles per game in La Liga.

His creativity is one of his greatest strengths from deep, and that is no different this season, with Acuna creating 12 chances from his 10 appearances this term, ranking him fifth in the squad. That is despite having to share the left-back role with Manchester United loanee Alex Telles, who has created one chance more in three more appearances.

With the latter playing more La Liga minutes than Acuna, it seems as though the Argentine is becoming surplus to requirements under new Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli.

The Latest: No longer needed

According to a report from Vamos Mi Sevilla FC, as relayed by Sport Witness, Wolves are listed as one of four clubs chasing Acuna, who is said to have been informed that he is no longer needed at Sevilla.

The outlet added that the 31-year-old’s agent has found four options in Villarreal, Inter Milan, Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolves, with the latter potentially having a pull with his former boss Lopetegui recently named as Bruno Lage’s successor.

Acuna’s contract is set to expire in 2025, with Sevilla said to be holding out for at least €12m (£10m) in order to sanction the player’s sale in the January transfer window.

The Verdict: Straightforward for both

Having enjoyed two successful seasons under Lopetegui, a move to Wolves would seem a no-brainer for both Acuna and the Old Gold.

It’s a move which makes sense for both parties, with the Midlands outfit also lacking depth in the full-back areas.

Only three teams have created fewer chances than Wolves in the current Premier League campaign, with just 15 as a team this season.

Acuna’s attacking output could be game-changing for Lopetegui's side if they can lure him to the Black Country.
