Wolves: Mario Lemina returns to training ahead of Southampton - Premier League News

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Mario Lemina has returned to training ahead of the Premier League game vs Southampton this weekend, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Injury concerns

The Gabon international made the switch to Molineux when he put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year contract last month, becoming one of the first six signings made by new manager Julen Lopetegui.

The Old Gold’s fresh arrival, however, was forced off the pitch through injury in the closing stages of the 3-0 victory over Liverpool last weekend, but it appears that there is no need for supporters to be concerned.

The Latest: Lemina fitness update

According to BirminghamLive, Lemina has been ‘visible’ on Wolves’ training pitches at Compton and was ‘featured’ in footage released by the club on Wednesday morning.

The 29-year-old was seen holding an ice pack to his ankle after limping off against Jurgen Klopp’s side, though it looks like he has ‘no lasting damage’.

The Verdict: Relief for Lopetegui

Lemina has only made three appearances for Wolves so far so it would have been a blow to lose him, but Lopetegui will be able to breathe a sigh of relief that it’s not as serious as initially feared.

The Adidas-sponsored star is already averaging 2.3 clearances per league game with a pass success rate of 85.9% after just 167 minutes of football (WhoScored).

The Libreville native has been dubbed a ‘powerhouse’ by BBC pundit Garth Crooks, and he will now be able to push on and try to help his side maintain their top-flight status as he gets underway with his career in the Midlands.
