Wolves: Journalist drops Matheus Nunes claim -Wolves News

Wolves transfer target Matheus Nunes could be one of the signings of the summer but his future is still up in the air, according to journalist Ryan Taylor.

The Lowdown: Nunes strongly linked with Wolves

The Sporting Lisbon midfielder has emerged as arguably the Old Gold’s number one transfer target this summer, as they look to make up for the expected departure of Ruben Neves.

Numerous reports have linked Nunes with a move to Molineux in recent weeks, with Bruno Lage looking to conduct some significant transfer business.

A new update has now emerged – one which does not sound too positive from a Wolves perspective.

The Latest: Journalist drops Nunes update

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Taylor praised Nunes as a potential signing, describing him as “one of the best” midfielders in Portugal, but claimed that the 23-year-old could stay put at Sporting.

When asked if Nunes would be one of the signings of the summer, the journalist replied:

“100%. But, at the moment, it is up in the air whether that will happen. Nunes is on holiday in Brazil.

“He’s actually quite happy at Sporting, from what I understand. He obviously recognises that it’s a World Cup year and he’s very comfortable and settled at Sporting at the moment.

“He’s one of the best players in the Primeira Liga, so I think he will only move if it’s the right move for him, which furthers and betters his career.”

The Verdict: Could go to the wire

This feels like one of those transfer sagas which could potentially end up dragging on throughout the summer, as Nunes weighs up his options.

As Taylor says, the fact that he is settled at Sporting in a World Cup year doesn’t bode too well for Wolves, but the lure of Premier League football cane be impossible to resist for many players.

The 23-year-old could be a fantastic replacement for Neves if the latter moves on – he scored three goals, registered two assists and averaged 1.3 tackles per game in the Primeira Liga last season – and the idea of being such a key player in arguably the best league in the world could be Wolves’ trump card in this transfer pursuit.
