Respected Wolves reporter Tim Spiers has heaped praise on youngster Fabio Silva for his contribution during the U23s’ 2-1 win against Doncaster Rovers on Tuesday night.
Silva shines in Doncaster
The two sides faced off in the Papa John’s Trophy where the West Midlands youngsters came out victorious on the night, with their £35.6m record signing scoring his first two goals in English football to seal the deal.
Silva had come under some scrutiny from segments of the Molineux faithful after his slow start to life in England and was given the opportunity to impress while the first-team broke away for the international break.
Recently likened to Portugal hero Cristiano Ronaldo, Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is a big fan of Silva, describing him as a “true talent” not long after his arrival at the club (cited by the Evening Express).
After covering the game for The Athletic, Spiers gave a summary of what he thought about Silva’s performance and what it means to the Portugal U20 international going forward.
Great night for the lad, opposition and occasion irrelevant when you’ve barely played for a couple of months. Two well-taken goals. Confidence boosted. Lovely stuff.

Transfer Tavern take
Spiers is spot on. Silva’s morale will have been significantly uplifted after being the match-winner on the night and may have changed some perspective on his impact at the club so far.
Silva could not have asked for a much better night, and Nuno will be hoping it can be replicated in the Premier League during the 2020/21 campaign.
There is still a long way to go this season and Silva has plenty of opportunities to impress.
In other news, Wolves beg Nuno Espirito Santo to sign ‘monster’ midfielder.
