Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton-Diaz, according to a report from TEAMtalk

The lowdown: Breakout season

Formerly of the Manchester United academy, Brereton-Diaz had spells at Stoke City and Nottingham Forest before finding a home in Lancashire.

Prior to the recently competed 2021/22 campaign, the 23-year-old centre-forward's highest scoring season was just seven league goals.

However, with 22 strikes and three assists in the Championship last term, Stoke-born Brereton-Diaz earned international recognition from Chile owing to his Chilean mother and is now appearing on the radar of numerous clubs...

The latest: Premier League interest

As per TEAMtalk, Wolves are believed to be 'in the running' to sign the 11-cap ace this summer.

The report states that whilst Blackburn are looking to 'cash in' on their frontman, the Wanderers face stiff competition from Leeds United, Southampton, Brighton and newly promoted Nottingham Forest.

It's also claimed La Liga duo Sevilla and Almeria are also both keen on the £20million-rated Brereton-Diaz who was praised for his 'extraordinary' work rate by Tony Mowbray following an eye-catching hat-trick against Cardiff City in September 2021.

The verdict: Make it happen

After Wolves ended the season with only 38 Premier League goals, a goal a game and less than every club outside of the relegation zone, Bruno Lage must add additional firepower to the Molineux squad during the transfer window.

Talismanic target man Raul Jimenez returned to full fitness, but the Mexican could only manage six goals, the same as Daniel Podence at the top of the Old Gold scoring charts for 2021/22. Whilst the return of Pedro Neto will alleviate some of the goalscoring responsibility, with Fabio Silva still struggling to make the step up to the senior level, at least one striker signing is a necessity.

Boasting strong dribbling, finishing and aerial prowess (WhoScored), Brereton-Diaz is like for like to Jimenez in terms of style and would therefore be the ideal candidate to strengthen the Wolves' ranks.
