Wolverhampton Wanderers are plotting a move to bring Bristol City goalkeeper Daniel Bentley to the Premier League, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Sarkic replacement wanted

Julen Lopetegui has kept Jose Sa as number one between the sticks since arriving, but recent reports have suggested that the boss is willing to let go of his second-choice option, Matija Sarkic, to sign someone who’s a more experienced backup.

The Robins shot-stopper will be out of contract at the end of the season, meaning that he could be available on a cut-price deal having not yet signed an extension at Ashton Gate.

The 6 foot 1 star has been on the bench for the last 15 Championship games having lost his place to Max O’Leary, so could well be tempted to look elsewhere.

The Latest: Wolves eyeing Bentley

According to BristolLive, Wolves have ‘expressed an interest’ in signing Bentley should Sarkic secure a move away before the end of the window.

The Midlands outfit are ‘yet to make an official bid’ for the 29-year-old, but Nigel Pearson’s side would be happy to ‘sanction his departure’ should a decent offer come in.

Stoke City have already made an enquiry for the keeper, but with other targets also being considered, this could allow Wanderers to ‘make their move’ and win the race for his signature.

The Verdict: Perfect candidate

Bentley has been dubbed ‘top class’ by journalist Josh Bunting, and he would make an excellent alternative option to have in the building at Molineux.

The Basildon-born talent has kept 121 clean sheets throughout his career, and prior to his omission was averaging 6.4 long balls per league game, highlighting his desire to push his team up the pitch.

Bentley is also Bristol’s club captain when in the team so would bring plenty of leadership qualities and be able to organise the side from the back, making him the perfect candidate to put pen to paper at Wolves.
