Midfielder Ruben Neves is expected to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, according to a report from The Athletic.

Wolves apparently need to 'sell big' this summer if they want to 'buy big' - the Midlands outfit finished 13th in the Premier League, six places down on their 2019/20 effort.

And they could fetch around £35million for 24-year-old Neves. The report adds that goalkeeper Rui Patricio is also being targeted by Roma.

Meanwhile, the future of Adama Traore, regarded as a 'very saleable asset', remains uncertain.

Neves was set to bring 200 Wolves appearances in 2021/22

Wolves shelled out a Championship record fee to recruit Neves from FC Porto ahead of the 2017/18 season. He's gone on to rack up 176 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals.

This season, he featured in all but two of Wolves' matches.

Intriguingly, the club's reported price tag is considerably lower than Transfermarkt's £45million valuation - he still has two years left on his contract, so it is perhaps no surprise to see fans bewildered by this latest report.

Fan feed Talking Wolves relayed the update, and here's how supporters reacted.

"Absolute joke potentially selling one of our best players and 35 million is nowhere near what we should be selling him for"

"Ridiculous, would need 3 new midfielders then with Moutinho also going back to Portugal, and only 35 mil to spend? Laughable"

"And so it begins. Jota V2.0 Be world class again next season somewhere else and valued 60m +"

"No Jota, Neves or Nuno. That will be the heartbreaker."

"This is it, the downfall, Fosun has seriously made us weaker now with all these sellings, and it looks like selling to raise funds is actually true."

"This would be criminal."
