Wolves were dealt a woeful 4-0 home beating by Burnley on Sunday in one of the worst displays of Nuno Espirito Santo's Molineux reign.

Chris Wood had put the game to bed by half-time by netting a hat-trick and Ashley Westwood scored another for the visitors with five minutes remaining. Wolves amassed an xG of just 0.36 over the course of the game, whilst allowing Burnley 2.43.

Nuno's men had surpassed the 40-point safety mark by beating Sheffield United the previous weekend. They remain in 12th place, five points adrift of the top half and four behind local rivals Aston Villa.

'Boly could not get his bearings'

In his player ratings, Express and Star correspondent Joe Edwards handed out five 2/10s, one of which went to £67k-per-week defender Willy Boly.

Edwards wrote that it was the Frenchman's 'worst performance in a Wolves shirt, without a doubt', adding that Boly 'could not get his bearings, at all'. The defender won just two duels all afternoon, lost possession 13 times and was culpable of some shocking misplaced headers, one of which came immediately prior to a goal for Wood.

Sunday marked the Ivorians 134th appearance in the old gold, with the 30-year-old continuing to be a regular presence in Nuno's defence throughout the 2020/21 season.

The other 2/10s were given to fellow centre-halves Conor Coady and Romain Saiss, holding midfielder Leander Dendoncker and forward Daniel Podence. Unsurprisingly, no player was awarded higher than a five by Edwards.

Transfer Tavern verdict

Boly and his Wolves team-mates will be out to prove they're not simply 'on the beach' for the remainder of the season when they take on West Bromwich Albion in a Midlands derby next weekend.

Even if they do muster a response, though, performances like this will surely generate lasting concerns among the Molineux faithful. Players like Boly cannot afford too many more horrendous off-days like the one against Burnley if they are to keep their places in the line-up.

In other news, many Wolves fans were buzzing after this transfer update.
