Wolves: Old Gold ‘expecting’ Julen Lopetegui to arrive next weekend -Premier League News

Wolverhampton Wanderers are ‘expecting’ Julen Lopetegui to arrive in England next weekend to appoint him as their new manager, according to journalist Tom Collomosse in the last 48 hours.

The Lowdown: Second time lucky?

Fosun have been searching to find Bruno Lage’s successor following his sacking last month, with the 56-year-old and QPR boss Michael Beale identified as the two preferred candidates, although both he and Lopetegui rejected the chance to move to the Premier League.

Despite Jeff Shi later releasing a statement stating that Steve Davis would remain in charge until 2023 at the earliest, the former Sevilla coach is now back in talks to take over the reins at Molineux.

The Latest: Wolves set for Lopetegui arrival

Taking to Twitter late on Thursday afternoon, Collomosse revealed that Lopetegui is due to fly in to conclude negotiations at the end of next week, meaning that his first game in charge would be against Everton after the World Cup break.

The Daily Mail journalist tweeted: “If all goes smoothly – and you have to say *if* given Wolves’ manager search thus far – club expecting Lopetegui in England from November 13. So he would formally start work the day after Arsenal at Molineux.”

The Verdict: Huge boost

Wolves had already been turned down by Lopetegui once, so to get one of their first-choice candidates back on board will be a massive boost.

The Spaniard has an outstanding managerial track record, having won 221, drawn 80 and lost just 67 of his 368 matches in charge, averaging 2.02 points per game (Transfermarkt).

Lopetegui at Wolves?

Yes, why not!

Yes, why not!

No thanks!

No thanks!

With a Europa League title to his name as well, he will know what it takes to compete at the highest level, and given the Old Gold’s currently position near the foot of the Premier League table, he seems like exactly the kind of manager that they need to get them out of trouble.
