Express & Star journalist Liam Keen has given an outline of Wolves' January plan and name-dropped former Premier League man Mario Lemina, who has recently been linked to the club.

The Lowdown: Wolves preparing third bid for Lemina

It was reported a few days ago that Julen Lopetegui's side were lining up a third bid for Lemina, who currently plays for OGC Nice, having played for Southampton and Fulham in the past.

Wolves have only had one new arrival in the January transfer window, with Matheus Cunha's arrival announced on Christmas Day as a loan signing from Atletico Madrid.

The Latest: Wolves want blend of talent and experience

Speaking on the E&S Wolves podcast, Keen revealed the club's plan for January and what kind of players Lopetegui is seeking this winter.

He said "There will be some young players and promising talents coming in, that's the plan - but they also want Premier League experience.

"They've got to get the right kind of players that are at the right age. That's why the likes of Mario Lemina, for example, is of interest - he's 29, played in the Premier League before, so that's the kinds of players we're looking at."

The Verdict: Lemina could be a strong addition

Lopetegui could use Lemina as a very effective option in holding midfield, as he boasts some very impressive defensive stats when compared to other midfielders in the past year.

Although the Gabon midfielder failed to make much of an impact at Southampton or Fulham, we believe that he's gone under the radar since making the switch to Nice.

He currently ranks in the top 4% for tackles, top 8% for blocks, top 5% for clearances and top 12% for interceptions in Europe's top competitions (as per FBref).

It's clear the Old Gold are keen on the midfielder and believe he would be a great option to have in the middle of the park, and with his Premier League experience and strong defensive stats, it's easy to see why.
