Wolves could reportedly look to appoint a new permanent manager before the end of the calendar year.

The Lowdown

The Old Gold have had a disappointing start to their latest Premier League season, which has seen the team win just two of their 12 matches.

Having got rid of Bruno Lage at the start of the month, Steve Davis has been in charge of the team while the club's hierarchy look to appoint a new head coach.

They were originally expected to continue with Davis in charge when Jeff Shi announced as much last week, but a new twist has now emerged regarding the club's plans to get a new manager through the door at Molineux.

The Latest

According to a recent report by Wolves journalist Liam Keen, writing for the Express & Star, the Midlands club could move for a new head coach before 2023 if the right candidate is found.

The report includes the information that "Wolves have interviewed several candidates for the role but announced last week that interim boss Steve Davis would remain in charge until 2023 to offer stability and continuity, with the players backing that decision."

However, the recent 4-0 defeat against Leicester City has changed that stance, and they could now spring into action in the coming days and weeks.

The Verdict

The club's executive chairman Shi had this to say on the matter prior to the defeat against the Foxes: "While there are no outstanding candidates to appoint on a permanent basis to the head coach position, we have complete faith in their ability and leadership to continue their roles into the World Cup break and new year."
It seems as though Shi has gone back on his word however and made the appointment of a new permanent manager a more pressing matter than it originally was.
And with the Old Gold currently sitting in the relegation zone, as well as having the third-lowest team rating (6.5/10) in the league for their overall performances this season, it makes sense for the club to look to get a new head coach in as soon as possible.
