Wolverhampton Wanderers would be making a ‘genuinely good addition’ by signing Sevilla defender Marcos Acuna, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Lowdown: Wolves emerge as favourites

The Argentinian is currently out in Qatar having reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup with Lionel Scaloni’s side, though that hasn’t stopped speculation surrounding his club future in La Liga.

The Premier League outfit have reportedly emerged as favourites to land the left-back, who is valued at £12m, as a result of Julen Lopetegui having already managed him during his time at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.

The Latest: Jones’ comments

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones claimed that Acuna should be assessed for his performances for Argentina during the remainder of the competition and offered his verdict on whether he would be a good fit at Molineux.

“We have to see how the rest of the tournament goes for him.

“It is an interesting developing story and he would be a genuinely good addition for Wolves, I think.”

The Verdict: Potential advantage?

Interest in Acuna is likely to increase should he continue to impress in Qatar, but Lopetegui’s existing connection could give Wolves the advantage in the race for his signature.

The Zapala native is a real attacking threat down the flank having provided ten assists and scored two goals himself at Sevilla, alongside averaging 1.7 crosses per league game.

Wolves have lacked any kind of prolific form in the final third which is why they are bottom of the table, but Acuna would be the ideal man to come in and change that in the New Year.
