Wolves: Old Gold monitoring Pierluigi Gollini

Wolves: Old Gold monitoring Pierluigi Gollini - Premier League News

Wolverhampton Wanderers are now monitoring Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini, who is currently on loan at Fiorentina.

The Lowdown: Gollini’s career so far

The 27-year-old has previous experience in England, making 20 appearances for Aston Villa in the Championship during the 2016/17 season, before eventually earning a £13m move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 after impressing with Atalanta.

The move to Spurs did not work out, with the 6 foot 5 goalkeeper making just ten appearances for the club. However, he may have another opportunity to impress in England, with the Old Gold now lined up as potential suitors…

The Latest: Lopetegui eyeing Gollini

According to a report from Tutto Atalanta (via Sport Witness), Wolves are now monitoring the Italian’s situation, with current employers Atalanta only willing to bring him back from Fiorentina if they are sure that they can find him a new club.

It is also detailed that Jose Sa is not considered ‘immovable’ in the Old Gold first team, so the former Tottenham man may be considered as more than just a backup option by Julen Lopetegui, should he be brought to Molineux.

First up in this Wolves transfer quiz, who was the last player to be signed by Bruno Lage at Molineux?

The Verdict: Get it done?

While the 27-year-old struggled to displace Hugo Lloris in Spurs’ starting XI, he may still have the ability to be a success at Premier League level, and he could have more of an opportunity to display his qualities at Wolves rather than at a team with Champions League aspirations.

Lauded as ‘excellent‘ by former Tottenham ace Graham Roberts, the shot-stopper was formidable as recently as the 2020-21 Serie A season, making 32 appearances in all competitions for Atalanta (including three in the Champions League) and keeping 13 clean sheets in the process.

While Gollini’s fortunes have dipped, judging by the fact that he has only featured three times in Serie A for Fiorentina this term, he has previously shown that he has the talent to at least challenge Sa for a starting berth at Molineux, and increased competition for the goalkeeping position could see both players striving to improve.
