Wolves: Adama Traore backed to play 12th man role this season -Wolves News

Wolves winger Adama Traore could play a key role as an impact substitute for Wanderers this season, according to reliable journalist Steve Madeley.

The Lowdown: Traore’s future up in the air

Bruno Lage shipped the Spaniard off to Barcelona during the January transfer window last season, having clearly not seen him as a key figure, despite once being called ‘amazing’ by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Traore struggled at the Catalan giants, however, failing to score and registering just two assists in 11 La Liga appearances overall, and he has since returned to Wolves.

It remains to be seen if he will still be a Wanderers player come the end of deadline day.

The Latest: Winger backed for impact role

Madeley took to Twitter to claim that the winger could be used off the bench this term, causing mayhem in the process:

“He’s obviously not a perfect wide player for Lage’s ‘plan A’. But with 5 subs this season there will be plenty of scope for bringing on subs to do a specific job and that could make a substitute like Traore even more valuable.”

The Verdict: Would he be happy?

There is definite logic in this idea, with five substitutes this season giving Lage more freedome to unleash Traore’s incredible pace against tiring legs.

Whether or not the 26-year-old is content with playing a squad role is very much up for debate, however, and he has been linked with a move to Leeds United, where he could feature more prominently.

It seems clear that Lage doesn’t see Traore as his type of player, in terms of his all-round game – he wouldn’t have been loaned out if not – but if both are happy with an impact role, it could be a shrewd move.
