Wolves have reportedly made an 'attempt' to sign Italy striker Andrea Belotti this summer, although he is thought to be holding out for a move to AS Roma.

The Lowdown: Belotti linked with Wolves

The Old Gold are still in need of a new striker after a profligate start to the season in front of goal, with Bruno Lage's side finding the net just once in their opening three Premier League games.

Belotti is a player who has been linked with a move to Molineux this summer after leaving Torino at the end of last season, meaning he is now a free agent.

A new update has now emerged in that regard - one which has at least given Wolves some hope of signing the 28-year-old.

The Latest: Wolves make fresh 'attempt' for Belotti

According to Calciomercato [via Sport Witness], Wolves have made a new 'attempt' to sign Belotti as they ‘try to snatch' him from other interested parties.

However, it is reported that the 44-cap Italy international, who tasted Euro 2020 glory last summer, would prefer to join Jose Mourinho's Roma.

The Verdict: Potential masterstroke, but unlikely

If Wolves were able to entice Belotti to Molineux this summer, it would be a potentially outstanding piece of business, given the quality that the striker has shown over the years.

He has 12 goals to his name for a formidable Italy side, has scored 106 goals in Serie A and was even once hailed as 'better than Gabriel Batistuta' by Fabio Capello.

Given the Argentine's formidable scoring record (more than 200 goals) during his time in Italy, that is no faint praise by the former England manager.

Unfortunately, Roma appear to be the favourites to get their man if this update is correct, which could scupper Wolves' hopes of sealing a hugely ambitious signing.
