Wolves: Jason Denayer talks reaches ‘impasse’

Wolves: Jason Denayer talks reaches 'impasse' - Premier League News

Wolves have made an offer to Jason Denayer but talks have reached an ‘impasse’, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Lowdown: Denayer linked with Wolves move

The summer transfer window is now over but that doesn’t rule out teams moving for free agents, with a deal for Diego Costa seemingly on the cards at Molineux if they can sort an ongoing work permit issue.

Another player who has been linked with joining Wolves is Denayer, who is without a club after his spell at Lyon concluded at the end of last season.

Sky Sports reported before the closure of the transfer window that Scott Sellars and co. had entered talks with the Belgium international, but a fresh update is slightly less promising.

The Latest: Situation reaches ‘impasse’

Writing on Twitter on Monday, Tavolieri confirms an offer has been made but claims that Denayer wants more money than Wolves are offering:

“Jason #Denayer transfer to #Wolverhampton at an impasse and the situation does not change. #WWFC doesn’t want to offer more and the player doesn’t want to earn less. To compare, Wolves offered £5m to #WHUFC & a 2-year contract to Craig Dawson – £55k/week.”

The Verdict: Wanderers should hold firm

This is a disappointing update, considering an extra centre-back would be handy for Wolves after the summer exits of Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Willy Boly.

Wanderers should hold firm in terms of their offer, however, with a money-motivated player not someone that Bruno Lage is necessarily going to want in his squad.

If Denayer isn’t happy with earning less, that is ultimately his decision, but Wolves shouldn’t give in to a free agent’s demands, especially when a new central defender isn’t absolutely essential.
