Wolves: Liam Keen confirms interest remains in Jason Denayer

Wolves: Liam Keen confirms interest remains in Jason Denayer -Premier League News

Wolves are showing genuine interest in signing free agent Jason Denayer to boost their defensive options, reliable journalist Liam Keen has claimed.

The Lowdown: Denayer linked with Wolves move

Wanderers’ summer transfer business looked done when the window slammed shut on Thursday night, following a productive few months in the market.

There is still the opportunity to sign free agents, however, one of which is Denayer, and Wolves were strongly linked with snapping him up earlier in the week.

The 35-time capped Belgium international is without a club after leaving Lyon at the end of last season.

The Latest: Keen provides key update

Writing on Twitter, The Express & Star‘s Keen confirmed that Wolves were still very much interested in acquiring Denayer’s signature imminently:

“NEW: Wolves still hold a heavy interest in Jason Denayer. The club is chasing a free agent centre-back signing after missing out on Craig Dawson on deadline day.”

The Verdict: Shrewd acquisition by Lage

Denayer could be an excellent signing by Wolves, having held his own in a golden generation of Belgium players that includes Kevin De Bruyne, Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku.

Former national team manager Marc Wilmots has even compared him to Hazard in the past, in terms of his mentality and ability to keep a ‘calm’ head in high pressure situations, a necessary trait for a top flight defender.

At 27, Denayer is still in and around the peak years of his career and he could come in and provide immediate competition for the likes of Max Kilman and Nathan Collins.

The centre-back may be a little rusty to begin with, due to a lack of match practice, but once he is fully up to speed he could be an inspired addition by Bruno Lage.
