Wolves: Wanderers to miss out on Josh Brownhill signing

Wolves: Wanderers to miss out on Josh Brownhill signing -Follow up

Wolves were interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill on deadline day but he is going nowhere, transfer insider Dean Jones reports.

The Lowdown: Brownhill linked with exit

The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season, and in the process, key players such as Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil moved on.

One player who has stayed put is Brownhill, however, with the midfielder linked with returning to a top-flight club not yet sealing his Turf Moor exit.

Wolves were one of those linked with a move for the 26-year-old but that ship appears to have sailed.

The Latest: Wolves set to miss out

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jones claimed that Wanderers have missed out on signing Brownhill, with Burnley refusing to let him leave:

“One player they were hopeful of arriving today was Josh Brownhill. He could have become a great late addition to the squad, but I’m hearing that Burnley have decided he’s not going to leave.”

The Verdict: Slight blow for Lage

Signing Brownhill would have been a shrewd investment by Wolves, with the Burnley man an unspectacular player but someone who provides solidity in the middle of the park.

He has a total of 78 appearances in the Premier League and has been described as ‘fabulous’ and ‘very energetic’ by former Aston Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie.

As it is, Wolves will have to battle on without another midfield signing, although the addition of Matheus Nunes does leave them well-stocked until January.
