New Wolves signing Matheus Nunes has worryingly already been linked with a 2023 transfer to Liverpool.

The Lowdown: Nunes impressing at Wolves

The 24-year-old made the move to Molineux during the summer transfer window, fighting off competition from Premier League clubs in the process.

Liverpool were one of those linked with the former Sporting CP man but it was Bruno Lage's side who got their man in the end.

Nunes has impressed in the first few months at the club, enjoying an 82.3% pass completion rate in the league and registering one assist to date, looking classy and composed in the middle of the park.

The Latest: Shock exit rumour emerges

Taking to Twitter, however, UOL's Bruno Andrade reported that Liverpool are eyeing up a 2023 move for Nunes, as Jurgen Klopp chases midfield signings:

"Liverpool think of Matheus Nunes to strengthen midfield in 2023; Enzo Fernandez is also on Jurgen Klopp's hit list; Relationship with Jorge Mendes weighs in favour of the duo."

The Verdict: Would be a huge blow

This would be an almighty blow for Wolves, not only because of Nunes' quality as a footballer but also because they have only just acquired his signature.

The key now is for Wanderers to prove to the Portuguese maestro that they are the right club for him in the long-term, climbing up the table and playing more attractive football along the way.

If the team struggle and a relegation battle ensues, Nunes' head could easily be turned by joining Klopp and some world-class players at Liverpool, which would act as a major setback for Wolves in 2023, especially with Ruben Neves sure to be the centre of much speculation once again.
