Wolves have now started official talks to bring former manager Nuno Espirito Santo back to the club.

The Lowdown: Wolves search goes on

It is now approaching two weeks since Bruno Lage was sacked as Wanderers boss but the club are still yet to confirm his successor.

Former Spain manager Julen Lopetegui emerged as the clear front-runner for the job but he had to decline it for family reasons, due to his father being unwell.

Now, a surprise rumour has emerged, with reports breaking on Thursday that the club are 'considering' a move for former boss Nuno.

The Latest: Nuno latest

Taking to Twitter, the Express and Star's Liam Keen dropped a further update on Friday morning, revealing the interest has moved on to formal talks with the 48 year-old:

"Wolves have opened talks with Nuno Espirito Santo's representatives over a return to Molineux. The former boss is believed to be very keen on taking the job."

The Verdict: Big risk?

Nuno did a good job on the whole during his time at Molineux, spending four years there and making Wolves an established Premier League team who were always tough to beat.

That being said, there is always a risk in bringing a manager back to the club, with things eventually growing stagnant and the football on show far from entertaining come the end.

Re-hiring Nuno could arguably be seen as a move of desperation, rather than bringing in a different boss with fresh ideas and a long-term vision.
