Pedro Martins is once again being linked with the vacant manager's job at Wolves after Bruno Lage was relieved of his duties, according to a new update.

The Lowdown: Martins without a club

The 52-year-old is currently without a club after being sacked by Olympiakos at the end of last season, following four years with the Greek giants.

During that time, Martins won three Greek Super League titles in a row, not to mention scooping Greek Cup glory in 2020, in what was a successful spell overall.

A recent claim from The Daily Mail reported him as a 'frontrunner' for the Wolves job only for the reliable John Percy to say the Portuguese is not seen as a genuine contender, but another update from Portugal is going back the other way.

The Latest: Approach made

According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola [via Sport Witness], Martins is seen as a 'strong candidate' to take over from Lage and he has 'even received an approach' from Wolves.

The report does stress that this isn't 'binding' but it does look as though Wanderers could see him taking charge in the near future.

The Verdict: Is he too unproven?

While Martins' aforementioned title-winning success at Olympiakos is undoubtedly impressive, he still feels like more of a left-field option than someone like Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui or the exciting Bo Svensson.

Barring Olympiakos, he has managed nobody of genuine European pedigree, meaning there is the risk that Wolves would be bringing in someone who is out of his depth.

At this point, Wanderers simply have to acquire the services of an individual who can take the team up a significant gear immediately, getting more out of creative and attacking players such as Ruben Neves, Matheus Nunes, Pedro Neto and Raul Jimenez in the process.
