According to Spanish reports (via Sport Witness), Wolves are interested in signing Valencia striker Maxi Gomez.

The lowdown: Career so far

Signed for £12.5million from Celta Vigo in 2019 (Goal), Gomez has scored 20 times and provided 11 assists in 101 appearances since arriving at Valencia.

The latest: Fichajes cites Wolves' interest

As per reports in Spain, as translated by SW, Wolves are said to have 'set their sights' on the 24-cap Uruguay ace.

It's claimed that Wanderers boss Bruno Lage is seeking reinforcements in the striker department this summer and the man described as 'fearsomely strong' by South American football expert Tim Vickery could be among the leading targets.

The report also suggests that Los murciélagos will be looking to boost their own transfer coffers and a sale of the £13.5million valued man could be a viable option.

The verdict: Better options elsewhere

Albeit Gomez would represent a welcome addition to the Wolves ranks, with just five direct goal contributions in 27 outings this term the Uruguayan is unlikely to set the Midlands alight with his productivity.

When using the FBref comparison tool, players such as Everton frontman Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Newcastle United's Chris Wood match up in playing style with the Valencia star, evidence of a desire from Lage to add another powerful focal point to the squad.

However, whilst signing a reliable understudy to Raul Jimenez is imperative, there are more trustworthy options to be found across Europe when it comes to proven goalscoring prowess.
