Wolves: Old Gold now ‘very confident’ after January

Wolves insiders are apparently ‘very confident’ of avoiding relegation and even mounting a mid-table push after their January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Old Gold busy…

The winter market is a challenging time for any Premier League club, let alone relegation-battlers, with clubs rushing to do business as quickly as possible and far less time to weigh your next moves or find replacements for outgoing players.

Julen Lopetegui’s side ended up finishing the month with six major signings – completing deals for Joao Gomes, Pablo Sarabia, Matheus Cunha, Daniel Bentley, Craig Dawson and Mario Lemina.

Wolves have bolstered every area of the squad with swoops for defenders, midfielders and forwards – leading to quite a promising claim from journalist Dean Jones.

The Latest: Jones makes promising Wolves claim…

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the reporter says Wolves insiders are now ‘very confident’ of not just avoiding the drop, but also climbing their way close to mid-table.

It’s added that those within Molinuex feel the place has a ‘completely different’ feel compared to before January with Jones relaying this information after ‘speaking to the club’.

“They’ve reached their target for the month; the squad is in much better shape now. Speaking to the club, they feel like a completely different club now from two months ago.

“They feel that this transfer window has been a real success, and they’re very confident not only of steering clear of relegation now, but actually trying to push their way up towards the mid-table.”

The Verdict: Exciting…

This news of Wolves feeling more and more optimistic of swerving the Championship will come as a brilliant bit of news for supporters.

Former boss Bruno Lage left the Midlands with just one win from eight games before his sacking on October 3, and his side only managed three goals in that time.

The feel around Wolves would’ve been that of real pessimism and negativity, understandably, but Lopetegui’s new era has also brought around the transfer backing of Fosun International.

The Old Gold have now added goals, youth, defensive experience, goalkeeping back up and midfield energy to the squad with all six of their signings.

It’s clear January was a definite success from a Wolves perspective but that added firepower will need to show itself over the second half of 2022/2023.

Wolves remain the division’s lowest goal scorers as Lopetegui is now tasked with quickly gelling the club’s reinforcements and mounting that mid-table push.
