Wolves: Leander Dendoncker linked with Everton move

Wolves midfielder Leander Dendoncker could potentially join Everton in the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Dendoncker a Wolves stalwart

The Belgian may not always steal the limelight as much as some players but he has proven to be an important squad player for Wanderers since joining from Anderlecht back in 2019.

Dendoncker has made 154 appearances for Wolves overall, including 120 in the Premier League, and he has been hailed as ‘brilliant’ by teammate Max Kilman.

The 27-year-old’s current Wanderers deal expires next summer with the option of an additional year, however, and a worrying update has emerged regarding his future.

The Latest: Everton keen on move

Taking to Twitter, Romano confirmed Everton’s interest in Dendoncker, with Frank Lampard having him on a ‘list’ of potential midfield signings:

“Everton want to sign an extra quality midfielder. Frank Lampard has also Leander Dendoncker in the list, he’s appreciated by board and manager. Everton, ready to explore this move in the next weeks.

“Contract with Wolves expires in 2023, with option for further season.”

The Verdict: Another potential midfield blow

As mentioned, Dendoncker may not be considered a star man for Wolves by many, but he is a player who knows his job and often does it in an effective fashion.

With Ruben Neves still likely to leave Molineux this summer, and with Joao Moutinho turning 36 later this year, losing Dendoncker would be a big blow for Bruno Lage.

Should it happen, it only further strengthens the need for additions in the middle of the park, with rumoured target Matheus Nunes an ideal signing, if Wolves can get it over the line.

He would provide both defensive quality and attacking thrust, having averaged 1.3 tackles and 2.5 dribbles per game in the Primeira Liga last season.
