Wolves: Tim Spiers hails Morgan Gibbs-White vs Fulham

Wolves drew 0-0 at home to Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon but journalist Tim Spiers was delighted by Morgan Gibbs-White’s commitment.

The Lowdown: Wolves held by Fulham

Bruno Lage’s side returned to league action after their 2-1 defeat away to Leeds last weekend, as the newly-promoted Cottagers made the trip to Molineux.

In truth, it wasn’t a classic Premier League encounter, with both sides toiling in the final third throughout and quality few and far between for long periods. Jose Sa did at least save Aleksandar Mitrovic’s penalty though, in one of the few exciting moments of the match.

It was a disappointing first home game of the campaign but one player who did well Gibbs-White, as he enjoyed an 88% pass completion rate and won five duels, according to Sofascore.

The Latest: Spiers impressed by Gibbs-White

Taking to Twitter during the game, Spiers lauded Gibbs-White’s ‘commitment’ following one lung-busting piece of play:

“MGW given a big ovation for racing back to win possession and stop a Fulham attack. Not quite clicking for him in the opposition third yet today but his commitment is terrific.”

The Verdict: Keep hold of him

This was a performance that outlined why Wolves would be wise to keep hold of Gibbs-White this summer, with the 22-year-old displaying real drive and tenacity in the middle of the park, despite things not quite coming off for him in the last third.

At 22, the future is so bright for the Wanderers man, so the hope is that he ignores interest from several Premier League teams, including Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Gibbs-White is simply too big a talent to allow to leave – granted, he may want a fresh challenge – and he could form a great midfield with Ruben Neves and Matheus Nunes, should Wolves end up signing the latter.
