Wolves: Portsmouth and Oxford United want Niall Ennis on loan - Wolves Transfer Rumours

After it was revealed that Wolves youngster Niall Ennis is in line for a new contract at Molineux, it seems he could now be about to go out on loan with two clubs interested in his services.

Ennis set to continue League One development

Ennis has provided some eye-opening performances for James Collins’ U23 side in recent years, which has seen him rewarded with first-team opportunities at Shrewsbury Town and Doncaster Rovers, but a serious knee injury saw his time cut short with the Shrews.

Darren Moore was impressed with what he saw from the 21-year-old striker in South Yorkshire, stating that he is more than capable of cutting it at League One level having scored six goals from 32 appearances for Donny, taking his combined goalscoring total to 19 at all levels, as per TransferMarkt.

No

Football Insider reported that Ennis could be on his way back to League One with both Portsmouth and Oxford United looking to acquire him on a season-long loan.

Premier League and EFL clubs have until October 16th to finalise their moves domestically, which gives the young Englishman the chance to make the move before the deadline passes.

Having found the net 12 times from 48 appearances for the reserve side in the West Midlands, it is no wonder that he is attracting interest from other clubs.

Championship test more appropriate

It is fine to presume that Ennis would do well at both Portsmouth and Oxford United. But having done well at Doncaster Rovers already and proved his worth there, it could be a year lost for him going back to League One for another season.

Sure, it would make sense if Ennis was only 19, but he is already 21 and could find himself falling behind other players at the same point of their careers, so playing for a Championship club this season would be more beneficial to him.

If he does decide to stay at Wolves, there is always the chance that he could be selected to play in the FA Cup and make his first-team debut.

That being said, Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans for Ennis will be revealed as the season goes on, and there is always the danger that he could stagnate playing at League One level for the second season running.
