# Wolves: Wanderers ‘looking to’ make striker signing alongside Matheus Nunes

**[Wolverhampton Wanderers](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/) are trying to sign a striker ‘before the next game’ against Tottenham, according to [transfer insider](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor) Dean Jones.**

### The lowdown: Depleted

Having already allowed misfiring youngster Fabio Silva to [join Anderlecht](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12647618/fabio-silva-set-for-loan-exit-wolves-record-signing-is-still-young-but-his-time-at-molineux-has-not-been-easy) on a season-long loan, Wolves were already in need of attacking reinforcements prior to Raul Jimenez’s [injury](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/62322732) setback.

In the absence of the duo, Bruno Lage has called upon Hwang Hee-chan to [lead the line](https://www.sofascore.com/fulham-wolverhampton/dsT) in the opening two Premier League fixtures, with no recognised centre-forward alternative on what has been an inexperienced bench.

Therefore, somewhat unsurprisingly the Molineux hierarchy have been expected to dip into the transfer market and one well-informed insider has predicted a new attacking option could now be imminent…

### The latest: ‘Before the next game’

Speaking to [Give Me Sport](https://www.givemesport.com/88048185-wolves-want-matheus-nunes-and-another-signing-done-by-the-weekend-at-molineux), Jones – a journalist for [Eurosport](https://www.eurosport.com/dean-jones_aut2710/author.shtml) – claimed that the Old Gold ‘will look to’ sign a much-needed frontman along with Matheus Nunes before Lage’s side face Tottenham this weekend.

He said: “Undoubtedly, they’ve got to get a striker in. This has to happen; it is a case of urgency for Wolves.

“They’re still a good side, they’re just lacking that cutting edge in the final third. And I think that is something that they will look to fix before the next game.”

### The verdict: Options

Linked to the likes of Blackburn Rovers hotshot [Ben Brereton Diaz](https://footballleagueworld.co.uk/exclusive-wolves-make-transfer-enquiry-for-blackburn-rovers-man/), Benfica starlet [Goncalo Ramos](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wolves-news/wolves-goncalo-ramos-fabio-silva-transfer-gossip-news/) and perennial Chelsea loanee [Michy Batshuayi](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11082665/Wolves-interested-loan-deal-Michy-Batshuayi-remain-talks-striker-Hwang-Ui-Jo.html) in recent weeks, there are certainly a number of avenues for the Midlands club to explore.

However, whether Jeff Shi has the wherewithal to get a deal over the line between now and a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday which is just 72 hours away remains to be seen, although it would be a welcome boost to Lage’s match-day ranks.

As things stand, Hwang is likely to start as the focal point of an attack backed up by Daniel Podence, Morgan Gibbs-White, new signing Goncalo Guedes and Pedro Neto – who himself has been [heavily linked](https://www.90min.com/posts/pedro-neto-attracting-interest-from-premier-league-clubs-this-summer) with a move away from Molineux overnight.
