# Rangers: Xavi backs Jack Wilshere move

**Spain legend Xavi has backed Jack Wilshere to shine at Rangers if he does make a move to Ibrox.**

### Xavi continues to back Wilshere

Wilshere has been [heavily linked](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1313651719608434691) with a switch to the 54-time Scottish champions, with him currently a free agent. He was at West Ham until recently, but his contract with the Hammers was [terminated by mutual consent](https://twitter.com/JackWilshere/status/1313201208136470528/photo/1).

Xavi has previously said that Wilshere would be [the future of English football](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/arsenal/11988686/Xavi-insists-Jack-Wilshere-is-the-future-of-English-football.html), which has so far not been the case. However, it seems he refuses to give up on the 28-year-old. The former Barcelona star [said](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-transfer-news/xavi-urges-jack-wilshere-make-22827562):

> *“I have had a lot of respect for Jack, for many years.*
>
> *“He played an incredible game against Barcelona (in 2011) and after that I predicted he would go on to be one of the best midfield players in the world and the future of English football. That is a prediction that I am sure would have come true if it were not for some horrible injuries.*
>
> *“Rangers could be a very good fit for him. The pace in Scotland is not as fast as England and it would give him more time on the ball. That is where he excels, his vision and passing is incredible.*
>
> *“They are a big club with a young coach who knows what it takes to win at the very highest level.*
>
> *“There is also the chance of him having the chance to play Champions League football again. That is where every player wants to be and at Rangers he will be given the opportunity to fight to play in it.*
>
> *“Gerrard will be a big fan of his for sure. They share a lot of similar qualities.*
>
> *“It would be a risk because of his injuries but if Rangers could manage to keep him fit and without injury, he would be the best player in Scotland.”*

### **Wilshere remains a risk**

From a talent point of view, Wilshere has it all. He has 34 caps for England, whilst he made [198](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wilshere/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/74223) appearances for Arsenal. That is something you don’t achieve unless you have top-level ability. Also, the fact that a four-time Champions League winner such as Xavi still has faith says an awful lot.

However, the biggest issue for Wilshere has of course never been whether he is good enough, but rather having enough time on the pitch to prove it. Injuries have damaged the [£4.32m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wilshere/marktwertverlauf/spieler/74223) midfielder’s career (per Transfermarkt), with him missing a whopping [208](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jack-wilshere/verletzungen/spieler/74223) games due to a number of issues.

With the Irons, he was earning [£100,000 a week](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/west-ham-united-fc/jack-wilshere-11946/). Of course, he will not expect that type of money at Ibrox, but one would think he would be amongst the top earners if he were to play north of the border. If he stays fit, he could be worth every penny. Unfortunately, that is the story of the former Bournemouth loanee’s career.
