# ‘You must be our next captain’ – Lots of Liverpool fans want this man to wear the armband

**On Saturday when Liverpool drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge, Jordan Henderson started the game as captain before giving the armband to James Milner when he was subbed. Then, when Milner was hooked minutes later, it was Virgil van Dijk who took on the captaincy and it’s something the fans want to see more of.**

Liverpool’s number four certainly played his part in the draw at Stamford Bridge and he’s proved time and time again that he’s one of the best in his position in the world since he rocked up at Anfield for £75 million. The fans love their dominant defender and it looks like they’ll be keen to see him wearing the captain’s armband more often after the Dutchman donned it for the dying minutes against Chelsea.

Van Dijk has impressed everywhere he’s played. From Celtic to Southampton and now at Liverpool, it just shows that there really is no challenge too big for the colossal defender. The Reds have truly got a gem in Van Dijk and the fact that he captains his national team will surely make him a candidate to be the Liverpool captain on a full-time basis once he’s been at the club for a bit long and established himself as a star to stay.

You can see what The Kopites make of Van Dijk as the captain here:
