The Giallorossi have previously been linked with a move for Lovren (Corriere di Roma [via Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/roma-agreement-reached-with-lovren-but-difficulty-with-liverpool-42556)) and this latest report says that they hope to sign the Croatian as a sweetener in any potential deal.

Had it not been for a [cruciate ligament rupture](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nicolo-zaniolo/verletzungen/spieler/392085) earlier this campaign, we may have heard a lot more about Zaniolo in recent weeks and months. Even at the age of just 20, he has [60](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nicolo-zaniolo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/392085) appearances for the club from the Italian capital under his belt, with [two goals in five caps](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/nicolo-zaniolo/nationalmannschaft/spieler/392085/verein_id/3376) for Italy as well.

Dejan Lovren, meanwhile, is far from a popular figure at Anfield, having been [berated](https://thisisfutbol.com/2020/03/blogs/premier-league/liverpool-fans-slam-dejan-lovren-after-latest-comments/) by portions of the club’s fanbase in the past. He has also become a bit-part player in more recent months, with Joe Gomez having become Jurgen Klopp’s go-to man alongside Virgil van Dijk, as per [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leistungsdaten/verein/31).

With the [£14.4m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dejan-lovren/marktwertverlauf/spieler/37838) former Southampton man appearing to have no long-term future at Liverpool, this could be the perfect opportunity for Michael Edwards to move him on and bring in some exciting talent that will be around for a lot longer.
