It was just yesterday in the Football Transfer Tavern that we reported Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke was trying to force a move away from the Midlands club and today Mail Online’s Simon Jones suggests that Liverpool could be his summer destination.
The Reds will consider a move for the 22-year-old Belgian international – who netted twice for his country in their 4-2 friendly victory over the USA on Saturday – if they lose Luis Suarez to Real Madrid in the post season.
Benteke is understood to be keen on a move to a bigger Premier League club and is set for talks with the Villa chiefs once he returns from international duty with Arsenal and Tottenham also reportedly interested.
After signing from Genk for £7 million last summer, Benteke single-handedly hauled Villa away from the relegation zone with 19 strikes in his 34 Premier League matches, with an additional four assists.
His impressive form has attracted attention from further afield and last week La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid were linked with a move for him as they seek to replace Radamel Falcao who departed for Monaco.
Villa want the striker to sign a new improved deal to remain at Villa Park for the next season at least but with Brendan Rodgers possibly looking for a new forward he could be ready to make the move to Anfield.
