Countdown to the start of the next transfer window:

£25 Million Deal Done, Ireland Staying & Bellamy Stock Takes An Upswing!

Date: 29th July 2010 at 2:30 pm | Filed under: Aston Villa,Fulham,Manchester City,Premiership,Tottenham | Author: Escapini

Another bleak day for English football. A perhaps ‘better than average’ footballer has been sold for an extraordinary amount of money speculatively pumped in by a foreign investor.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not having a childish dig at Manchester City here, it’s just I have to ask the question, ‘Where is this actually going?’ I could see what Chelsea were up to when they went on their spending spree of Abramovich’s millions.

I can understand the logic of paying out this class of cash for a player that will dramatically effect your fortunes, but Milner has yet to convince many that he is that player.

As I write Joleon Lescott is featured on Sky Sports News highlights being beaten by a Harlem Globetrotter who then scores. From ‘outside the six’.

Ireland was mooted as a possible makeweight to the Milner deal, but a combination of Mancini’s attitude toward such deals and the player’s general lack of motivation to jump ship at this stage have ruled that out

As we reported earlier this week, one positive to this is that it will at least kick start Villa’s shopping trip.

Craig Bellamy rumours are circulating link a nervous party host. Cardiff supposedly told he’s theirs for £6 Million. Tottenham told to make OIRO £12 Million. The latest is that Mark Hughes now wants him at Fulham.

Fulham are a Bride On A Budget compared to some, but maybe Bellamy wants guaranteed first team football and is not prepared to sit and wait for Tottenham to fail to sign anyone really eye catching before he finds out what the future holds for him.

I don’t understand the title of this post, no deal has been agreed for Milner, unless ofcourse the author is Martin O’neil using another name.

Ireland has also not said he is staying at City.

You want hits, you have them, but after reading this garbage you won’t be getting any more from me.

  • Escapini says:
    Date: July 29th, 2010 at 3:12 pm

    Mick,

It’s more a case of what will they achieve by buying these pretty ordinary players at vastly inflated figures? Ronaldo was daft money, but (domestically anyway) he can change games, win games.

Milner & Lescott. Sounds like a northern hat shop. Maybe they could branch out when it’s discovered they really aren’t worth the money that was paid for them.

  • Dan says:

Escapini your right with what you say, but why use the headline title you did?

I am not sure what Mancini’s plan is either but at least it appears he is shoring upt he defense so far with his purchases. Nithin, what was Chelsea’s plan when they bought SWP? He didn’t get 1st team footie… I think they bought him so others couldn’t. Milner is an interesting player. Has recently shown that he is not just a winger and can play box to box in the central midfield with offensive creativity as well as defensive aggession and pressure. Is it too much money? Most likely. Mancini likes his CM’s so be able to play defense at a top level and is willing to throw away some attack to do it. Thus Ireland (fantastic going forward!!!) sits the bench because he isnt’ very strong in defense. It will be very interesting to see Mancini put it all together. This is “his squad” now. What we see ont he pitch is going to be his creation. We will see stalwart Blues players heading for the exit or sitting the bench… Me, I want to see fewer goals given up (Hughes wasn’t so good here. I want to see good attacking footie (something the Hughes squad did well at), even if it is ManUre counter attacking footie…. I fear we are going to see defending grind it out footie… Our squad is turning into a bunch of giants!!!! look at their average height….

There is a serious issue here we are paying 113 for petrol and a lot more in London. Yet the owners of City are using it like spoilt kids to buy average players . We should all start hating petrol Cityi hope they find a replacement for Petrol and City Cammmels go back to being a club lked by most fans . I love to see my Team evolve with a few transfers moddest wages and youngsteras comming through or like Lennon Hudds Dawson Rose brought in young and for the future.

  • CitySteve says:

Oh Dear. No deals done. Tabloids are over egging the prices City are actually paying.

If I’m not much mistaken Man Utd bought Veron for around £28million and that was in 2001. I’d say even if Milner was £25million it would be a bargin in comparison. Berbatov anyone?

Chelsea spent £400 million in one year, City have spent £500 million since the Premership BEGAN.

There are NO facts here, just rubbish – worse – recycled rubbish without informed oppinion.

Just another go at City as if United, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea have never spent any money. I suggest you have a look at the transfer breakdown of each of these clubs since 2000. Compare them to each other and City. Write down the facts, give a balanced report, and then in two or three sentences give YOUR opinion for what it’s worth.

Oh and you might want to change the picture. The guy you have pictured is Al-Fahim who was the front man for The Abu Dhabi United Group backed by Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. After spouting a load of rubbish he was kicked into touch before a penny was spent. But of course why let facts get in the way of blind jealousy.

  • Escapini says:
    Date: July 29th, 2010 at 4:13 pm

I’m confused Dan, but the purpose of the headline was to convey that several decent sources believe this deal to be done and at the figure quoted. So I pass it on in good faith. If it pans out differently, simply submit your receipt and you get an on the spot no quibble refund.

Did you know that Joe Cole effectively told Spurs and Arsenal he’d be delighted to play for them? Then Liverpool offered more cash and he was gone like a dust cloud. We speculated along with everyone else but didn’t run a Cole Is A Yid or Cole Is a Gooner simply because Cole was clearly whoring himself about. Milner is not such a player and so this deal is far less likely to collapse.

If it does, you as I, have to accept that ‘such is life’. Things do change. Has nothing ever changed in your life?

This is a transfer rumour site, matey. By our very definition there will be speculation, but we are not in the making it up business.

  • Paul says:

Has anyone told Mancini that he has to name a 25 man squad only and 8 of these have to be home grown…that would explain the keepng hold of Richards. I saw on Sky the other day that city could play 3 different teams already…with that in mind there will already be 8 players disappointed which will only be added to with the influx of new additions! There may be trouble ahead….as the song says!!

  • Husker Blu says:
    Date: July 29th, 2010 at 4:22 pm

To say you cant understand what City are doing but you understand Chelsea is a load of bollox as everyone and there dog had a go at them for paying the then prices.
What is happening now is that theres a hell of a lot of jealousy going around with City. Fact is all half decent English players are overpriced. Its why most teams buy overseas. City have stated so far that there not gonna pay the 30 million.
Try and do some homework before you write an article on an opposing team especially when you dont know or have the facts!
Every team in the world would love to have Citys owners and thats fact, orelse there liars.

City have stated they won’t pay £30m. We all know that.
English players come to market almost £10m over their real value. We all know that.

We also know Chelsea won a ransom demand of pots and pans.
History will tell us if men like Milner & Lescott are CL quality.
    I think not.

No problem Escapini its money well spent.I would like to think the Milner deal was done one way or another so that if any new recruites were bought in they would have some gelling time together befor the season gets under way.But at this point in time any new players seem like no go area.Keep us posted on the milner progress off for a pint now and thanks again for the comments about the Milner Lescot northen hat shop it was a classic.

Guvnor – when you say goater et al. are our level, do you mean the times when spurs were considerably richer than city? I don’t understand your point. As for no history? Are you serious? I suggest you have a little research. Granted we have done nothing during the premiership years, infact the best during my life time was seeing us win at wembly against gillingham! But I know there was a history before I started watching them through thick and thick. I’m enjoying the ride, and not to the disrespect of any other team.

I’ve been going to matches home and away since I was six, it’s a football thing. You illiterate tw@t.

What a joke, you’ve had a dig at all mentioned there. Milner is a very good player and if City to blow stupid money on players, then that’s their fault. Because they bid 24m for him, doesn’t make him any less of a player. How many players are over-priced these days? Nearly all of them. Then there’s someone comparing Milner to Ronaldo in the comments for some reason, it just gets sillier.

This is my favourite chelsea team, you can clearly see the wisdom of a coherent and knowledgeable transfer strategy

Def: Ferreira (13.2)Boulahrouz (8.5m) Asier del Horno (8m) Zhirkov (18m)

Mid: Wright Phillips(21m) Juan Veron (15m) Scott Parker (10m)

    For: Crespo (16.8) Schevchenko(30.8m) Mutu (15.8m)

    subs: Tiago (10m), Kezman (5m) Johnson (6m) Belletti (5.5)

How many games did that 185m get?

    Guvnor,
you are a disgrace and a laughing stock, most self-respecting Spuds fans will be cringing reading your illiterate teenage ramblings.
Did you not spot the racist insult the author spouted at your club, and I quote “We speculated along with everyone else but didn’t run a Cole Is A Yid or Cole Is a Gooner simply because Cole was clearly whoring himself about.”
If you did spot it and chose to ignore it, it makes you as bad as he is, and if you didn’t, then that just tells us you are only seeing what you want to see and therefore your opinion is worthless, and you are a moron.
As previous posters have urged you, go back to your history books (google it in your case) and you will find that City and Spuds have almost identical success in the past, and indeed have been rivals in many a season on almost equal footing.
Perhaps you’ll have more success trading insults regarding the bodymass of our respective mothers?

A couple of points. Did you call me a racist? And the guvnor a moron?
    Here’s some House Rules.
    1. As a Spurs fans I don’t recognize ‘Yid’ as racist.
    2. The jury may occasionally be out on the guvnor, but here you play the ball, not the man.
    4. ‘Villa…still Villa’… (as in Ricardo, not Aston)

Yes, I believe I cleverly insinuated the Guvnor is a moron, and I think you’ll find most Jews and self-respecting people find the term “yid” to be offensive.
if the shoe fits, wear it.
With regards to your retrospective house rules, is there one forbidding the use of actual fact when it comes to transfer reporting, as opposed to insane speculation and muck-racking?
    Am I banned now?

I do get more than a little peeved when fans of sides that dont have investment, chastise those that do? Whether you for or against it, it’s irrelevant after all, because as a fan you’ve no say in it anyway. You can bleat on all you like, but the only way to actually change things is not to go to games at all, dont buy the shirts etc, and all you then deprive is yourself! Pointless argument, meaningless and puerile and as relevant as the clubs history, which is nice for reflection, but pretty useless when all’s said and done as Professional football is a results game, it’s a now game, and in all honesty most fans couldn’t give a monkeys as where the money comes from, so long as its spent on the team!. Its nice to have ideals and ethics, but really if someone came in and threw huge bundles of cash at your team, would you honestly care…no I said honestly!

  • Essexian76 says:
    Date: July 30th, 2010 at 2:27 pm

Also can anyone Jewish or otherwise say as to why they find the term Yid offensive? Is my Yiddisher Momma therefore a racist chant? Please explain, because I was brought up in Stamford Hill and never found anyone objecting to the name back then, its seems only when it became adopted by the the Spurs supporters to deflect the antipathy towards them that this issue raised it head, perhaps its the well intentioned chattering classes getting in on the act and totally missing the point, you tell me? as they say the road to ruination is paved with yoghurt knitting tree huggers.

  • It's Grim Oop North says:
    Date: July 30th, 2010 at 3:27 pm

I find the term “yid” offensive, in the same way I find the term “paki” offensive – often terms used in a perjorative fashion by persons looking to cause offense.
Just because I’m quarter Irish does not mean I can go around insulting fellow Irish and Irish descent, calling them “micks” or “bog-hoppers” or similar.
The sooner we all stop using these terms then the sooner we can all look beyond race, religion, colour, sexual preference etc. and get on with abusing each other solely on the team we support, and how we go about it. (some might argue you can’t change the team you’re born into, but that’s an argument for another day).
Many terms perfectly acceptable twenty years ago are not ok now, and nor should they be, just because you grew up using them does not mean they didn’t have a negative impact on strengthening stereotypes.
You soft southern fooking puffs make me sick to my stomach, stick to drinking warm shandy and leave the business of football to the real men of the North.

No the market has not gone crazy just man city. it has completed stagnated. Its one of the slowest transfer markets i can remember and no real movement for any clubs. Bar citeh i think all the other clubs have tightened their belts and I cannot see too many big money moves. The only clubs in europe who will spend 20+ mil on one player will be city, real or barca. I cant see any other club spending this sort of money. There may be a few 10-15mil and a host of -10 mil but we are watching a big decline in collective transfer revenue. Remeber a lot of clubs are being forced to sort their books out before the new financial regs come into force, city will splash what they can then even they will be forced to stop

Escapini throws down the breadcrumbs. Several pigeons have a harmless argy-bargy around them. We discuss, share opinions. Have a bit of giggle. Evry enow and then a bloody seagull turns up with no sense of humour, balanced opinion – or why they’re so keen to get involved if it’s the rubbish they wrongly suggest it is – and spoil it for everyone.

It’s soul-destroying to watch a very good writer’s entertaining contribution to the rumour mill shot down in flames by people who are clearly keen to be outraged and staunchly stupid about things that ultimately concern a sport we all love. At least he’s not lazy. Half of us who’ve the cheek to question his views and approach do so from the safety of our manky office chairs in the spare room. Leave it out! Find something more constructive to do. Like boil your heads.
