Blackpool are really having a pretty torrid time of it lately and some pundits are now suggesting they could be doomed for the drop, their fall down the league is looking pretty catastrophic at this point and their shambolic defending and nasty habit of throwing away leads is really hurting them.
At 3:29 on Saturday afternoon things were looking a bit rosier for the club, talisman Charlie Adam had scored twice and given them a two nil lead over relegation rivals Blackburn, only for the now sadly predictable implosion to occur with Blackpool succumbing in the 93rd minute and having to take a solitary point from the game.
The bright spark again was Charlie Adam and perhaps uncomfortably for many around Bloomfield Road present in the stands were Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish and aptly named Tottenham scout Ian Bloomfield.
There isn’t a football fan who isn’t growing tired of the Charlie Adam story, as the season progresses and enters the home straight, it is clear for all to see how doomed the Seasiders would be without their fiery Scottish playmaker. After a dramatic emergence onto the Premier League stage that would put Take That to shame, there has been nothing but rumour mongering over his future and that looks set to continue.
It is common knowledge that Liverpool failed with a £9million bid for Adam on the last day of the transfer window, and since then things have been quiet, however as reported in the Daily Mirror the presence of Dalglish and Bloomfield underlines the interest both Tottenham and Liverpool still have in signing the player this Summer.
The race to sign the player will no doubt be extensive, and it is thought that Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United may be interested in moving for the midfield dynamo as another possible replacement for Paul Scholes.
Ian ‘the country bumpkin’ Holloway has already made it clear that he expects Adam to move on this Summer, and if their dire form continues and they are relegated I think it will be even more of a certainty. Where the player will chose to play is unclear, as is the price. It would probably be realistic to suggest that it would cost about £10million to secure the players services, a fee which Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham would all be able to meet.
I personally believe the player would be best off at Liverpool, I think Manchester United will be looking at superior players to replace Scholes and I believe Tottenham already have players of a higher quality than Adam. Liverpool however would be a good fit, it would give him the opportunity to work with Kenny Dalglish and I also think he is likely to see more action at Anfield as opposed to the other destinations.
This is a story that came out of nowhere a few months ago and never really came to anything, I don’t think that will be the case for much longer and I expect to see Charlie Adam playing for a different club next season whether Blackpool go down or not.
