2 goalkeepers Liverpool must target if Keylor Navas joins Arsenal

Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side record a third win in the space of a week by battering West Ham 4-1 at the London Stadium, a result which moved them up to fifth in the Premier League table.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the East London outfit off the back of beating Huddersfield Town and Maribor, and first half goals from Mohamed Salah and Joel Matip set them on their way to another three points. Manuel Lanzini did get one back for the hosts ten minutes after the break, yet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first Premier League goal of the campaign restored their two-goal cushion almost immediately, before Salah netted his second and Liverpool’s fourth 15 minutes from time to complete the rout.

Thus, several of our resident Liverpudlians have been in high spirits this week in the Tavern, although they now have a fortnight to wait until their side return to league action in a bid to keep their fine run of form going.

Nonetheless, there is plenty going on to occupy those Liverpool fans lining up at the bar, not least a recent report from Diario Gol (via The Daily Star) which suggests that top-flight rivals Arsenal have joined the race for Real Madrid shot-stopper Keylor Navas, a reported target of the Reds.

The 30-year-old moved to the Spanish capital back in 2014 and has since gone on to play over 100 games for the club, helping them to the La Liga and Champions League titles last season, as well as the latter the year before.

Yet his future may well be away from the Bernabeu and as such both Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly eyeing up a move, but here are TWO other goalkeepers the Reds could target should they miss out on a move for Navas next year…

Kasper Schmeichel

He was crucial in helping Leicester City win the Premier League back in 2015/16, but Kasper Schmeichel was arguably more important in making sure their retained their top-flight status last term.

The 30-year-old regularly made key saves at key times to help the Foxes avoid the drop last season to finish 12th in the division, with nine clean sheets in the league and five in the Champions League underlining his prowess in between the sticks.

And were Leicester to fail to get back into the top half come the New Year, Liverpool must look to target the Denmark international, as he has certainly proven his credentials at top tier level over the years, and would surely bring about much-needed confidence in the Reds backline were he to don the gloves at Anfield.

Jan Oblak

Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak continues to go from strength to strength in the Spanish capital.

The 24-year-old moved to Diego Simeone’s outfit in 2014 and has since kept 72 clean sheets in just 128 appearances for the club, in which time he has twice been voted into the La Liga Team of the Season, and indeed helped the club to the final of the Champions League back in 2016.

Yet Liverpool are one of several sides reportedly interested in the Slovenia international, which would be a huge statement of intent from Klopp and the Reds hierarchy if they were to launch a bid.

And at the age of 24, he could certainly become their number one for many years to come.
