West Ham have had an awful season compared to that of last, but we here at the Transfer Tavern feel if Slaven Bilic and the owners can get this January window just right then they could really see their season turn around.
The summer transfer window went appallingly badly for the Hammers with many of those who arrived being absolute flops to put it nicely.
The Irons have been on the end of some really bad defeats this season including most recently a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City in the FA Cup, so it’s easy to see that they desperately need to make improvements at both ends of the pitch.
It’s also been clear to see that some of the players just simply haven’t been pulling their weight or do not wish to be at the club and should look for a new side.
With that in mind, it’s about time that West Ham looked to add and get rid of a couple of players this January window and so here’s who our landlord has in mind…
In: Scott Hogan
The Hammers are lacking in goals and need to bring in a striker who has proven his worth in England.
Who better, then, than the leading scorer in 2016 in the Championship. The English forward will have to make a big step up but it is clear that he has the talent so it shouldn’t be a massive difference for the 24-year-old striker. This could be the kind of signing that turns out to be absolutely inspired.
Out: Simone Zaza
What a an awful, awful signing this man has been.
Our landlord simply cannot get over how much the Italian has flopped this season in what’s been one of the most woeful transfers ever witnessed by the bar. He’s not scored once this season for the Hammers and many of our punters reckon they could have done a better job for the club!
In: Robert Snodgrass
The Hull City winger has been by and far their best player in an otherwise unlucky season for the Tigers.
It could be with a heavy heart he leaves the club but when a side further up the table and with European football aspirations come calling it is hard to turn it down. The Scotland international was subject to a rejected bid earlier this month and it wouldn’t surprise our landlord to see a further bid soon.
Out: Alvaro Arbeloa
The European Cup and World Cup winner joined the Hammers in the summer to provide cover in the full-back positions and when called on has done an okay at best job.
But, at 33-years-old, he’s not getting younger and it appears something has just not worked out for him at West Ham. Perhaps now would be the best chance for him to join a club and get regular game time as he looks close to finishing his very successful career.
