Tottenham Hotspur have had plenty of false dawns over recent years.
Too many times have the fans here at the Transfer Tavern said ‘next year will be our year’, only to see their best players sold and another year of ‘buying for the future’.
Now, under Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs look like the real deal.
Over the last two years they have amassed the most points, have the best goal difference and a lower net spend than their competitors by quite some way.
Their points tally this season would have won them the title on no less than 11 occasions.
So what does Pochettino need to sort out to take Spurs to the next level?
The fans here want to see silverware soon, and his talented team of youngsters are hungry for trophies too.
With Kane proving himself again to be the world class forward he’s promised to be since his breakthrough season, Alli showing all the traits needed to become a club icon as well, and so many other stand out performers in the starting eleven, Tottenham are very close to the finished article.
Here’s what we think are the TWO biggest issues for Pochettino to sort out at Tottenham this summer…
Keep Their Star Players
There’s no question that Spurs have some truly quality players. Kane, Alli, Eriksen and Lloris to name a few.
But Spurs fans know only too well that it’s hard to say no when the big boys come with their millions.
Having lost so many other big names in the past to their Premier League rivals and abroad, Pochettino and Daniel Levy must resist the approaches for their stars.
Kyle Walker already looks set to leave, with Toby Alderweireld still to sign a new contract.
Keeping their team of young stars together must be a top priority as in the current market they are almost impossible to replace.
Quality in Squad Depth
There have been times this season where Spurs have struggled against certain teams and needed to change things up to find a way through.
Unfortunately for them, when they turn to their bench they don’t have the star names to compare with their first eleven.
Never was this more evident that the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea.
The Blues looked to Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa from the bench whilst Spurs brought on Walker and Nkoudou.
With no disrespect to those two, had they been able to bring on the creativity and firepower of someone like Hazard or Costa, then we could be anticipating one more North London derby in the Final next week.
